Yesterday, NP member politisite wrote a column saying that the New York Mets should change the name of their new stadium Citi Field to Taxpayers Field in light of the recent government bailout of Citigroup.

Well, it seems that politisite isn't alone.

Now that Citigroup is getting billions of dollars in federal aid, Staten Island Republicans Vincent Ignizio and James Oddo say the ballpark’s name should be changed to Citi/Taxpayer Field.

Citigroup signed the deal for stadium naming rights when their financial outlook was a lot rosier. Despite their financial problems and plummeting share price, Citigroup and Mets officials insist that the deal is still on, meaning that US taxpayer dolllars will likely be making their way into the Mets coffers.

The Mets won't be the first sports franchise to receive bailout money. Manchester United's main sponsor is AIG Insurance, which has received millions from the US government.

How do we, as citizens, continue to speak out to get the name change? If the Thai's can do it why can't we?
