Ny Yankees Sign Burnett to 5 Year Deal
The New York Yankees signed another pitcher today, A.J. Burnett who recently became a free agent after opting out of a $55 million 5 year contact with the Blue Jays. The Yankees signed Burnett to a modest $82.5 million 5 year contract only two days after signing CC Sabathia to a 7 year $161 million contract proving that the Yankees aren't afraid of throwing around a little money after missing the playoffs for the first time in 13 years last year.
Burnett finished 18-10 with a 4.07 ERA in Toronto setting career high records with 231 strikeouts and 221 innings pitched. He is also notorious for shutting down AL East rivals such as Boston who he has gone 5-0 against in his pitching career.
Burnett began his career with Florida in 1999 before joining Toronto as a free agent in 2006. Overall he has a 87-76 record with a 3.81 ERA.
