The Olympic Banana Video: Upgrading the Torch Relay
Omar Cornut Proudly Carries Olympic Banana Through Guildford
As the Olympic Torch Relay made its way through Guildford (southwest of London) on July 20, game developer Omar Cornut decided to give the proceedings a much-needed upgrade. Crowds had mobbed the High Street, waiting for the torch to pass. Clearly they were getting bored.
Omar treated the crowd to a warmup act, proudly holding up a banana as he ran down the street. A performance-art comment on the inherent silliness of pomp and circumstance? A reference to the langur security team at the 2010 Commonwealth Games? Or just a guy who really, really likes bananas?
Media Molecule posted the video you see below, and they also have quite a few banana torch relay photos. Omar Cornut embodies the Olympian in all of us.
Looks like the Olympic flame is passing down the office. That's nice because I needed a torch for my kitchen.
Note that the police make no attempt to stop him, while the crowd is clearly enjoys the spectacle.
