Olympic Impressions : Opening Ceremonies
08/08/08 started with hundred’s of "fou" drummers moving in unison to the thunder of their own drums. And then . . . the lights went out. I was horrified.
This is not a slur, just an honest reflection of just where this terror stems from. I have been, since my adolescent days terrified by any image of millions of Chinese simply moving in unison. Whether marching, jogging or even just playing the drums these images still haunt me as a grown man seizing my stomach and weakening my knees.
As a child I could never understand my fear but as a man I have come to the realization that my fear is not bias, racist or utter paranoia, my fear is based solely in the accuracy in which the Chinese carry out these insanely complicated tasks, with skill, precision and always a hint of mystery. Simply terrifying.
Next came a child prodigy with the voice of an angel but I had the fear now and paranoia took over, was this young lady even real? Or was she a hologram? A robot or some other more sophisticated technology?
Chinese military? A red flag! Have I become delusional? No. This is Beijing, China 08/08/08
The child prodigy appears again, this time by way of sky-kite, floating across Beijing’s Bird’s-nest stadium. Many are delighted. I, have locked all the doors, shuttered the windows and roused the Doberman.
Thai-chi from no less than 2008 strong, again a grand mass of Chinese citizens all swaying to "the beat of the same drum." After successive mass tandem marches I was almost able to enjoy the spectial for its grace, valour, elegance and showmanship.
Then suddenly without warning neat rows were formed and Thai-chi presenters began scattering to create a blurring line of white. I couldn’t tell where one presenter began and the next finished. They had become a solid white line of high definition heaven......

Did a real person write this excellent review? Or was it written by a robot journalist who exhales humor as easily as we humans do carbon dioxide?
