Olympic Security: Massive Security for Vancouver 2010 Games
The Olympic security for the Vancouver 2010 winter games are of olympic proportions. One way it is being described is picture the security level at airports, and apply them to the venues for the Olympic games.
It is likely one of the largest security operations taking place on Canadian soil. In total it is expected that 15,000 security personnel will be on hand providing security for the games - consider there are around 5,000 athletes and that is a 3 to 1 ratio of security personnel to athletesThe security personnel inlcude: the RCMP who will providing venue security; the Vancouver Police force who will be providing non-venue security; a small army of private security personnel; United States security forces; and 5,000 members of the Canadian Military.
The bill for security for the Vancouver Olympics is massive over, $1 billion and that does not include overtime costs for the Vancouver Police force according to the Georgia Straight Newspaper.
With the Christmas Day bomb scare still fresh security personnel will not be taking any chances and it seems spectators should be prepared for long waits and thorough scrutiny.

That's the cost of keeping people safe in these days of wacko Islamist assholes! Imagine the cost of a suicide bomber going off during the opening ceremony or gold medal hockey game? Security is not a place to cut corners.

We have nothing to fear but fear itself, I think the security and cost is far over done, but whats worse are the fear mongering conspiracy theorists who add to this cost of fear who on line somehow have the ability to see into their crystal balls of some planned false flag/ colvert operation that compares to 9/11... another inside job? I'll look into my crystal ball and just say,, Enjoy the games Canada!

right.... let's give away all our freedoms for a few wacko Islamists... great idea... and Free Speech Zones work well in a "free" democratic society too... and 900 cameras... why not I'm not doing anything wrong... what's wrong with giving up a little liberty for getting security?... No wait isn't that called big brother or fascism or tyranny... no can't be true that's just a conspiracy... yep that's the cost of being safe... so let's now go bomb the hell out of the middle east and arab countries and shoot up afghanistan so that we can make even more friends... that's an even better idea... cost of living in a safe place today and for future generations... next we should microchip everyone just in case someone might want to potentially become a terrorist one day... or even their children... yep cost of keeping people safe... baaaa baaaa mainstream news rocks!!!!!

It's temporary. I would not support these kinds of measures were they not a one time precaution.
