Teams:

Australia (From): Shaun Marsh, Shane Watson, Michael Clarke(c), Andrew Symonds, Callum Ferguson, David Hussey, Brad Haddin(w), James Hopes, Nathan Hauritz, Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark, Doug Bollinger, Ben Hilfenhaus, Brett Geeves, Brett Lee, Ben Laughlin

Pakistan (From): Salman Butt, Nasir Jamshed, Younis Khan(c), Misbah Ul-Haq, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal(w), Sohail Tanvir, Umar Gul, Shoaib Akhtar, Saeed Ajmal, Yasir Hameed, Fawad Alam, Ahmed Shehzad

Ground Reality and Pitch: The DSC is a new multi-use stadium in Dubai. The Pakistan Cricket Board has agreed for a three year contract to have the Pakistan team play International ODIs and T20s at this ground. The unique feature of this ground is the lighting system. Instead of the usual tower, the lights are placed on the roof to create a 'Ring of Fire' like view.
The pitch is expected to behave like a traditional sub-continent pitch providing the batsmen opportunities to score lots of runs and the spinners would also have an equal say in the dry conditions.

Team News:

Pakistan: After announcements that the World Cup would not be played at Pakistan, the Pakistan side would prefer their cricket to do the talking. Pakistan have a lot to prove after their recent record going against them. They have the right opportunity against an Aussie side which seems to be low on morale after their recent defeats.

Australia: With an ideal platform laid to test out the side before the Twenty20 World Cup, the Australians would prefer to put aside their defeats against South Africa and India. The Australians would look at their batsmen to hit form while their bowlers would be tested in the 'Batsmen Friendly' conditions at Dubai.

Players to Watch:

Sohail Tanveer: The wrong footed left-arm pacer is the right person to bowl in the dry conditions of Dubai. The most successful bowler in the 2008 season of the IPL, Tanveer would look at using his reverse swing to torment the Australians.
Andrew Symonds: After a string of controversies surrounding his drinking habits, the bulky Aussie was sent for rehabilitation. Declared fit by the Australian board, Symonds would like to justify the selectors' faith in him.

Sound Bytes:

If we play well - not necessarily win - but play well then we can become like Inzi and Bob Woolmer's sides in 2005 and 2006 - Younis Khan on the team's prospects against Australia.
It's fantastic to actually play against Pakistan players who are world class performers - Australian Coach Tim Nelsen on playing against Pakistan in Dubai

Trivia:

Australia and Pakistan have played a total of 18 ODIs in neutral venues since 1975.
Australia has won 10 and lost 5 ODIs against Pakistan in neutral venues
Australia has lost 9 of their last 15 ODIs played.

Shahid Afridi has been named the Man of the Match for his excellent spell today.

It was an important win for Pakistan after the trouble they have had in recent times. Australia started off well but Afridi's and Ajmal's spell were too good for them to handle. They bowled well to restrict Pakistan, but Misbah ensured he stayed till the end and take Pakistan home. Australia on the other hand will be looking forward to facing the spinners confidently in the second match.
