Less than 24 hours after putting her husband, hockey great, Pat Burns to rest, Line Gignac Burns, discovered that the family's Volkswagen Toureg was broken into, priceless memorabillia of Pat Burns' hockey years stolen.
The car contained 30 hockey sweaters signed by NHL stars from nearly every team in the league, family photographs, a watch belonging to Burns, jewelry belonging to his widow, several credit cards and two suitcases filled with Burns’ clothing.
“You cannot put a price on these items,” Lemieux said, adding police wanted to prevent the items from being resold.
The hockey jerseys and other hockey related items were to be sold at auctions to help build the Pat Burns Arena in Stanstead.
Police are hoping someone saw something. The theft occurred between midnight and 9:00 am Tuesday on Notre Dame St. E near St. Pierre St. Police are urging the public to keep an eye out for the stolen goods either on the street, in pawnshops, and on websites like Craig's List. The Montreal Police confidential Info-Crime number is 514-393-1133.
The thief, or thieves, are also being encouraged to call the line, Lemieux added. They can set up a drop-off point for the items, and no questions will be asked.

Pat Burns had an extensive career as a head coach in the National Hockey League (NHL). Pat Burns won 501 games as head coach in his 15 seasons in the NHL. Burns coached the Montreal Canadiens, The Toronto Maple Leafs, the Boston Bruins, and the New Jersey Devils. Under Burns, the NJ Devils won the Stanley Cup in 2002-2003.
Pat Burns, died after a long battle with cancer on November 19th. He was 58.
