Some people think that there may have been some drama behind the scenes. One theory suggests that Pau Gasol's girlfriend Sylvia Lopez Castro may have had something to do with it.

There were reports in one SoCal paper that Pau Gasol may have broken up with girlfriend Sylvia Lopez Castro a couple of weeks back. The theory goes that the Pau Gasol-Sylvia Lopez Castro break-up may have been the reason behind Gasol's lackluster performance in the playoffs.

The OC Register story cites a MediaTakeOut post that suggested the Pau Gasol-Sylvia Lopez break-up may have been caused by a teammate's wife (the fact that the OC Register newspaper cited MediaTakeOut as a source is clearly a sign of the Apocalypse).

According to reporter Kevin Ding: "Pau expressed dismay at 'lies' reported about personal life upsetting people 'very close to me.' 'To me, it's sad.'"

Ding asked Kobe Bryant about the Lopez Castro story and the Lakers star dismissed any suggestion that his wife had anything to do with anything.

"Kobe dismissed theory about discord between his wife and Pau's girlfriend: "They barely know each other."

Speculation about a Vanessa Bryant-Sylvia Lopez Castro feud reminded some that Kobe Bryant's wife tangled with former Laker Karl Malone back in the day.

Meanwhile, a post on SportsbyBrooks suggests that there Pau Gasol and Lopez may still be together.

Who knows? There seems to be precious little information about the Pau Gasol girlfriend rumors. Of course, that won't stop people from speculating. Maybe the Pau Gasol-Sylvia Lopez Castro rumors will be the 2011 version of the Delonte West-Lebron James' mom rumor.
