Paul Gascoigne arrested in Newcastle
Troubled ex-England football star Paul Gascoigne has been arrested in his home town of Newcastle and sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
The forty-year-old, known familiarly as Gazza, was capped 57 times for England in a career that contained both startling heights and crushing lows.
Often described as the most gifted player of his generation, and despite playing for Tottenham, Newcastle, Lazio and Rangers, he never fulfilled his huge potential.
Sectioned after arrest.
The former Kettering Town boss was detained after Northumbria Police were called last night to a hotel in Gateshead.A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Police attended the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead yesterday evening after we received a report of concern for a 40-year-old man staying at the hotel."
"The man was detained under the Mental Health Act and no-one was injured during the incident." .….
Gascoigne's 39-day reign at Kettering ended in acrimony, with chairman Imraan Ladak claiming the former England midfielder was "under the influence of alcohol before, during and after several first-team games and training sessions". ….

I'm a bit surprised that Gazza's stayed out of jail for this long!

It's a shame to see anyone in this position, ruined through excessive drinking and an agressive lifestyle.
Hopefully the shrinks can sort him out..

Yeah, somehow Vinny Jones was able to channel it, turnign it into a successful post-football career. (It helps that he tended to brawl with his friends)
