Paul Hamm--2008 American Cup--FX
Paul Hamm, gold medalist in the all-around Gymnastics competition at the 2004 Athens Olympics, has withdrawn from the Beijing Olympics because of a persistent hand injury. Hamm explained his decision to the press:
“I have put my heart and soul into my comeback and done everything I could to get ready in time to compete in Beijing,” said Hamm, in a statement sent by USA Gymnastics. “After returning home from the preparation camp, I had a few physical setbacks, and it became clear to me that my physical preparations would not be sufficient to properly represent the United States and contribute to the teams efforts to win a medal.”
His place will be taken by one of three alternates -- Alexander Artemev, Raj Bhavsar, or David Durante. One blogger favours Raj Bhavasar.
So which alternate will be named to Paul Hamm’s spot? Hopefully Raj Bhavasar! He deserves it. No reports out yet on who will get the spot.
