Peyton Manning was pulled out of the Indianapolis Colts vs New York Jets game with his team holding a narrow five-point lead. Colts head coach Jim Caldwell clearly benched Peyton Manning in the third quarter to protect his health in a game with no real meaning in the standings. Instead of Peyton Manning, the Colts offense was quarterbacked by backup Curtis Painter.

After the Peyton Manning benching, the Jets mounted a comeback and won the Colts vs Jets game by a score of 29-15. Curtis Painter ended up with a less than stellar stat line. He went 4-for-11 for 44 passing yards. He also threw an interception and gave up a critical fumble which the Jets recovered in the end zone for a touchdown.

Fans at Lucas Oil Stadium have booed the decision to sit Peyton Manning. If the Colts go on to lose and sacrifice their shot a perfect 16-0 record, Jim Caldwell may be facing tough questions from the fans and media.

Jim Caldwell has got to be the dumbest coach in the NFL.  Forget the record, he is a complete pinhead, and because of this stupid decision, mark my words, the COLTS will lose the momentum and will suffer a shocking defeat in the first game of the playoffs.  Gawd, can we please get rid of this moron, this imbecile, this pretender of a coach...?  Can we talk Urban Meyer into leaving Florida (again).

I don't especially understand all of football strategy, but I do understand the feeling of winning, of breaking a record, of being the best.  As a viewer at home, I felt cheated, and angry.  I am surprised the stands didn't empty out.  Perhaps the fans thought it was a mistake that Peyton would be allowed to correct before the end.  It was not fair to Painter, it was a slap in the face to the players that worked so hard all season to have this loss forced on them.Wrong, wrong, wrong.

After all the hype, reading, routing for Peyton Manning and the Colts, the coach does this, I was cheated, the fans were cheated, give them a refund. This should be illegal, isnt that altering the outcome of a game. Arrest the coach and the owner!!!! I am definatly hoping the Colts lose in the first round, they couldnt beat SD anyway

Caldwell is a jackass. The fans own the entire football league, they should get what they came for... a win. It's a frigin game, one winner ,one loser, period. Manning and the team were unhappy, you could tell by their expressions. The Colt's management and owner let their fans down...and that's just wrong.

If the coach thought benching Peyton was the right thing to do out of fear of an injury....Why put Peyton in at all in that game?????  What a moron.  Noone remembers who won the SuperBowl (unless it is your home team) but everyone knows the undefeated teams.   Idiots.....

Shouldn't the players have some say in whether they are pulled from the game? It was obviuos that those taken out of the game (Manning, Clark, Wayne, Saturday and more) were all eager to get back out on the field. I still love the Colts, but whoever actually made that decision needs to go.

Could Jim Caldwell be worried that the chock artist Peyton Manning pull another disaster?   It must be pretty clear that the Colts are a losing organization.  The chances of them winning a Super Bowl are pretty slim if they cannot beat the Jets.   They do not call Peyton Manning the choker for nothing.  I think it is only fair to spread the blame to Jim Caldwell and call him the choker also.  I f you do not have the balls to try and win it all you are just not a man.   How can a team lead by a puss win the super bowl, now way Jose.

Winners never quit & quitters never win. The players & the fans have been betrayed by the Colts greedy management. If the last 2 games don't matter then why should the first 2 or any game as far as that goes. If your that concerned about the players health why not let them sit out all season? Peyton was robbed of the Heisman Trophy & now has been robbed of a perfect season. I hope the players spirit has not been broken. How many people bought tickets & went to the game to see the starters stand on the sideline and lose to the Jets when they had a chance to make history. There is a Super Bowl every year but never a team 16-0. Colts management has shown total disrespect to the players as well as the fans.

I will NOTattend any more Colts games.Teams have a chance every year for the super bowl, but rarely do teams have the opportunity to go 16 and 0. The logic of not wanting players hurt is ludicris in the Jets game, because the defense was on the field for a long, long time and could have been hurt. Caldwell  is gutless,he should have played to win regardless of Polians selfish input. With this stupid mindset, why not play all the bench players against the Bills?  Polian and Caldwell have no respect for the fans, city state or the integrity of the game. This was worse than sneaking out of Baltimore at night.  I have no respectfor colts management. I hope the Jets win the big one now.

Wat an embarrasment to all the colts fans and to painter, he didnt even want to be in the game you could see it in his face. Why put a third string back up in the game, that was a stupid call by Caldwell. I beleive the colts are on their way to a comeback. Go Colts!

All I have to say is I am crushed.  Jim Caldwell might have just dropped his pants, mooned the crowd, and then flip finish by flipping off all the Colts fans in the crowd that night.  It would have been a nicer and faster way to tell Colts fans that he doesn't care.  If I had saved up and paid something like the $300 Colts tickets were going for that night, I think I would have rioted.  Why did Colts fans not riot?  Shows we are cowards.  We should have all out rioted- maybe lynch the tyrannical Jim Caldwell.
