Phil Wins his first OPEN!
Congratulations to Phil Mickelson on his first Open Championship victory! Mickelson shot a 5-under 66 final round to win his fifth major championship. He only lacks the US Open to complete the set. After the heartbreaking disappointment that we all felt, at his loosing the US OPEN on Father's Day at Merion, victory at Muirfield is all that much more sweet. Phil essentially traded places with Tiger (going from 4th to 2nd place) and then pulled ahead to take the win. During his acceptance speech for the trophy, his wife was all smiles while his long time partner/caddy Jim (Bones) Mackay was in tears. After scoring a birdie putt on the 18th hole, Mickelson walked off the green and embraced his family. What a great visual to end such a spectacular day. That remarkable final round of 66 would be a challenge for any other majors champion to beat. I can't wait to see him win the sixth illusive major, the US OPEN in 2014.
