Philadelphia Mummers Parade 2008
This guy's great, but what I like the most about this one is the fact that after a miserable 8-8 season we're still down here proudly flying the Birds flag (actually 2) down Broad on New Years.
Take that Ernie Accorsi! (-)---)
Although it's going to be painful to watch the Cowgirls, Big Blue and the Skins in the playoffs, you look at the numbers and we didn't have a bad season. Take out the Green Bay game (thanks Andy) and the Chicago meltdown and we're 10-6.
Like what I've seen so far of Stewart Bradley. Gaither moves back to the outside. Next year you've got a healthy Lito and B-Dawk (who never seemed the same after the injury, but has the full off-season to recover). Kearse gets dumped and those reps go to someone who actually can play (whether its a rotation of Thomas and Abiaymira or an FA). Patterson and Gocong keep improving...and you have a better D than this year's team that ranked #10 in total YPG, and #9 in PPG - the only team in the top 10 in both categories to miss the playoffs.
I think McNabb's going to be a monster next year. Most unappreciated Philly athlete since Schmidt. And I've got 2 words for the people who want to move him and start the Kevin Kobb era - Bobby Hoying.
Westbrook? If the MVP award was voted on the way it should be, he'd be the MVP. Nice to see some of the voters are awake and he came in third though.
Curtis - who gets flak for not being a 1, but quietly had a nice 1,000 yd season - gets a better counterpart on the other side. They'll never sign Ocho Cinco, but they should. Don't know what to make of all the noise around Berrian, but he's better than Reggie Brown, so I'll take him. Favorite moment from a long year in section 224...Reggie Brown catches a 5 yard out then turns it inside and just keeps running East-to-West about halfway across the field instead of turning it up field. For some reason the jumbotron flashes that "Downtown" Reggie Brown comic superhero graphic and a guy in back of us yells out "Downtwon Reggie Brown? They should call him Sideways Reggie Brown." And there was much rejoicing. Hmmm...maybe you had to be there. But it's little moments like that that make all the misery worth it.
Me, maybe it's heresy, but I'm throwing my allegiance for the next 2 weeks to Big Blue.
Just got done reading The GM by Tom Callahan - a behind the scenes look at Ernie Accorsi's last season as GM of the Giants. A great read. And I guess that's double-heresy because Accorsi REALLY hates the Birds and its fans (and yet, in the book he has such a classic Philly personality - straight-shooting, no B.S., scrappy, blue collar mentality, etc. Just don't get it.). Would like to see the team Accorsi put together make one last run before getting beat by Favre at Lambeau.
Maybe more importantly, my girlfriend bleeds blue (although if we ever have kids, her oft-voiced plan to raise them as Giants fans - that just ain't gonna happen).
What does it matter? New England's winning it all anyway.
