Phillies Parade Draws Thousands to the Streets of Philadelphia
Hundreds of thousands of Philadelphians took to the streets to celebrate the Philadelphia Phillies World Series victory. Philly fans have waited more than two decades to celebrate a championship team. The last Philly sports team to win a championship was Philadelphia 76ers, who won the NBA championship in 1983. The Phillies last won the World Series in 1980.
The parade started with left fielder Pat Burrell, who rode the streets on a horse-drawn carriage. He was followed by numerous flatbed trucks filled with players and management. Fans filled every possible space on Broad Street, packing street, climbing trees, and filling balconies and rooftops. Despite the huge numbers, there were no signs of the kind of unrest that took place on Wednesday night after the Phillies clinched the title. Earlier in the day, trains heading into Philadelphia were overwhelmed with fans heading into the city for the parade.
After the parade, the team will head to rallies at Citizens Bank Park, their home stadium, and Lincoln Financial Field, the home of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles. More than 100,000 fans are expected to attend both rallies.

Nothing comes close to the Halloween day Phillies championship parade going on as I type this, mere blocks from me. Kids in Phillies schwag are propped on parental shoulders, high school kids are shirtless painted head to toe with pride, the open containers pass freely from hand to mouth as cops walk by. And those who have not forsaken Halloween prove to the masses that witches, ghosts and vampires can be ghouls and sports-fans.

The crowd was half a block deep, cheering and happy to see their World Champs come through. Septa shut down for half the day and I watched the parade from an office window, glad to be out of that teeming crowd!

It was a great time. We went expecting crowds and got on the trains early. The weather was fantastic and I will remember today for a long time.

I took about a 2 hour lunch and was smashed on the corner of Broad and Chestnut looking west across broad street. Chestnut street going down to 13th was at least a block and a half filled with people. I will remember this amazing day. Cole Hamels waving is arm in the sky, the whole street started chanting MVP!!!!!! MVP!!!! MVP!!!!!! The float stopped and he was cheering!!!!!
