Hundreds of thousands of Philadelphians took to the streets to celebrate the Philadelphia Phillies World Series victory. Philly fans have waited more than two decades to celebrate a championship team. The last Philly sports team to win a championship was Philadelphia 76ers, who won the NBA championship in 1983. The Phillies last won the World Series in 1980.
The parade started with left fielder Pat Burrell, who rode the streets on a horse-drawn carriage. He was followed by numerous flatbed trucks filled with players and management. Fans filled every possible space on Broad Street, packing street, climbing trees, and filling balconies and rooftops. Despite the huge numbers, there were no signs of the kind of unrest that took place on Wednesday night after the Phillies clinched the title. Earlier in the day, trains heading into Philadelphia were overwhelmed with fans heading into the city for the Parade.
After the parade, the team will head to rallies at Citizens Bank Park, their home stadium, and Lincoln Financial Field, the home of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles. More than 100,000 fans are expected to attend both rallies.
