A Philadelphia man who had his car destroyed during the city's World Series celebration has raised money for a new car through his blog, Philly Fix My Car. The day after the Phillies won their first World Series since 1980, Ted Passon found that his 1998 Mitsubishi Galant had been flipped over by rowdy fans.

Since his insurance didn't cover acts of vandalism, Passon decided to start a blog asking fellow Philadelphians to donate $10 for a new car.

So I was thinking...

There was alot of people on Broad Street last night. If all the people who were hanging out near Broad and Washington (where the car was flipped) gave me ten dollars I could probably buy a new car... or if all the people who actually flipped my car gave me a thousand dollars that could work too.

Either way Philly you broke my car... please help me fix it!

The city has responded to Passon's plea has helped raised $3,800 dollars. He has received donations from as far as Virginia, Texas, and California.

And now that he is just $200 away from a good deal on a used Saturn, Passon said he will give any donations that exceed his $4,000 goal to other people whose cars were also flipped that night, including three people who found him through his Web site. He said nine out of ten donations have been for $10 or less but his largest donation was from a man in Texas who "blew me away" with a gift of $500.

"As nice and wonderful as everybody has been, it's a funny, double-edged sword," he said. "I'm not trying to be the 'Joe the Plumber' of the car-flipped guys." *

That's great that people are helping him out. The thing I don't get is why so many people think its necessary to be so destructive when they celebrate.

It really if a shame that so often, when something good happens for a lot of people, a few of them find a way to make it negatively impact others. The guy wasn't even a Tampa Bay fan!!!

The driver was a teenage unlicensed youth who took the corner too fast (way too fast). No one was injured and there was only minor property damage (except to the flipped car, of course). How he managed to flip it with such precision is still a mystery.

It was really awesome (and very rare) to see so many people so happy in philadelphia It was an exciting vibe, citywide, even for those of us who aren't big baseball fans.

We were on I-5 N headed from Portland to Seattle. There was a huge backup, and eventually we saw this flipped car in Tacoma.

This 1925 Morris Cowley Bullnose was near the end of an antique auto tour in the 1980s in The Netherlands (just 3 km from the ferry to England) when it was rear-ended. It flipped diagonally, then rolled four times. The driver was seriously injured, but recovered. The car is now on display at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, England, where it sits on the tow dolly of a 1926 Austin wrecker. It is part of the very interesting "Jack Tucker's Garage" display, which depicts a typical English country garage of about 1938.
