Pittsburgh Penguins win despite Sidney Crosby's knee injury
During the second period of game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, Johan Franzen rubbed Sidney Crosby out into the boards near center ice injuring the young stars' knee. Crosby was obviously hurt as he came out limping and struggling back to the bench.
Sidney Crosby's injury turned out to be an outter knee injury where he injected pain medication and tried to freeze it before taking a 30 second shift in the third period. After the Franzen hit, Crosby played one, 30 second shift before watching the whole game on the bench.
However, the injury did not stop Sid the Kid from coming out and hoisting the Stanley Cup as the youngest captain in NHL history to win the Stanley Cup.

That wasn't knee on knee, that was a good, legal hip-check by Franzen. Crosby didn't get his foot down and his knee caught the brunt of the hit. Stuff happens. Get over it.

Ok, it doesn't say knee on knee here but it did on the link that brought me here.

Come on, give me a break. The hit was clearly interference and illegal, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Crosby never touched the puck. It was the classic taking advantage of a star player in a vulnerable position. Point in case Kronwall on Havlet, he never touched the puck and as such Kronwall was penalized.
I am tired of guys taking cheap shots at Crosby, bring back the fighters!!!

It was clearly illegal. You might want to check out the meaning of "interference". And the follow through was not finishing the check but targeted at injury. Typical Franzen crap.

The refs in the whole series were either told not to call penalties if they weren't flagrant or are some of the blindest guys in hockey. In seven games I think there might have been 3 or 4 penalties called. If your gonna let them play at least let them know so they can make the game more interesting

This year's hockey playoffs were great, but the refs need to call penalties even when superstars are involved. Cases in point: 1) Ovechkin's cheap shot at Gonchar's knee should have resulted in a suspension for such a flagrant attempt to injure, 2) Malkin should have been suspended a game for instigating a fight in the last minute in game 2, 3) Franzen's interference and attempt to injure Crosby in game 7 should have gotten him tossed out.
