Plaxico Burress Out of Jail: What Next for Plaxico?
Plaxico Burress Freed after 2 Years in Jail
Former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress is out of jail, having served just under two years for violating New York's gun laws. In November 2008, Plaxico Burress had gone to a New York nightclub called The Latin Quarter with a handgun tucked into his pants. The gun slipped and went off, shooting Plaxico in the leg. Plaxico himself was the only victim in the shooting, which was deemed an accident.
Plaxico Burress had used the alias "Harris Smith" when he went to the hospital, but his fame preceded him; Super Bowl-winning catches have that effect.
Plaxico Jones: Free Agent
Plaxico Burress is now out of jail and will be on parole for the next two years. His NFL career is still up in the air. Drew Rosenhaus, Burress' agent, is pitching this as a new beginning for Plaxico, and is not ruling out a return to the Giants. Brandon Jacobs, however, says that a Plax return to the Giants is a non-starter.
Burress, who did his time at Oneida Correctional Facility, told reporters, "It's a beautiful day to be reunited with my family".
Plaxico Burress is a free agent in more ways than one. Now there's only the little matter of the NFL lockout.
