Good Luck

Rachel Alexandra has won the 134th Preakness Stakes, with Mine That Bird finishing second. Rachel Alexandra is the first filly to win in 85 years.

Previous reporting:

The Preakness Stakes take place today, May 16, and with only a little bit of time left before it all starts, people are making their final predictions and setting the odds.

Rachel Alexandra is still the clear favourite to win it seems, but Mine That Bird, the unlikely winner of the Kentucky Derby could take the title again as no one thought it would win the Derby and it did by quite a margin.

The race is set for 6:15 pm tonight. Live coverage will being at 5pm EST.

According to Bodog Sports, Rachel Alexandra will win the race, but it doesn't discount other horses out of the running either.

Here are a look at the current odds:

Big Drama - 10/1 odds
Mine That Bird - 6/1
Musket Man - 8/1
Luv Gov - 50/1
Friesan Fire - 6/1
Terrain - 30/1
Papa Clem - 12/1
General Quarters - 20/1
Pioneer of the Nile - 5/1
Flying Private - 50/1
Take The Points - 30/1
Tone It Down - 50/1
Rachel Alexandra - 8/5 odds

Many are hoping that there will be a surprise win like Mine That Bird, as then the payouts are the biggest, but we won't know until later tonight who will win this coveted title.

The first thing to watch for is whether or not Mine That Bird (11/2 currently) can win the 2nd leg of the Triple Crown after taking home the Kentucky Derby earlier this month.

Winning the first two legs of the Triple Crown is never easy but this horse won pretty convincingly last time out so you just never know.  One thing that is certain is that come post time for the Preakness this horse will have a brand new rider.

Perhaps an even more intriguing story to follow on the Preakness would be the addition of filly Rachel Alexandra (8/5 currently) to the starting gate at post time.

Mine That Bird was ridden by Calvin Borel in the Kentucky Derby but the legendary jockey opted to get off of his Derby mount in order to ride the highly-touted female Rachel Alexandra.

Thanks, Amy for this fun news... I didn't get to watch the race.

Champion filly Rachel Alexandra removed any doubt she could race with the colts by winning the US$1.1-million Preakness Stakes in commanding fashion Saturday.
