Rachel Alexandra defeated Zenyatta to be win the 2009 Horse of the Year award. The award was announced on January 18, 2010 at the 39th annual Eclipse Awards at the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

Rachel Alexandra received 130 first-place votes while runner-up Zenyatta garnered 99 votes.


Rachel Alexandra had a dream season in 2009, becoming the first filly in 85 years to win the Preakness Stakes. She also won the Haskell Invitational and Woodward Stakes.

Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta might meet on the track next year. Rachel Alexandra's trainers believe that she will race another year.
