Ramirez traded, Canadian goes to Boston
It is difficult to replace Manny Ramirez, but replacing him with Jason Bay may turn out to be a great move in the long run. The on/off-field shenanigans by Manny became tiresome, and with Bay, they include a great hitter as well as someone without the on/off-field baggage Manny sometimes carry with him.
The Red Sox finally parted ways with their disgruntled slugger, sending him to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a startling, three-team trade Thursday that brought Jason Bay to Boston.
Pittsburgh gave up Bay and wound up with four young players. The deal was completed just before the 4 p.m. EDT deadline for making trades without waivers.
As of early Thursday, it appeared Ramirez might be on his way to the Florida Marlins. But when those talks fizzled, the Red Sox and Pirates found a willing third partner in the Dodgers.

This was taken during batting practice against the Triple AAA team in Seattle, you might know them as the Mariners. Anyway, just Manny being Manny in the outfield listening to music via his sunglasses. Anyway, came out alright and again there were heaps and bounds more Sox fans than the Mariners. So, that's always fun.

I'm a lifelong Red Sox fan. I can tell you we have mixed feelings about this. Manny drove us crazy, but his bat and occasionally brilliant fielding won us two World Series, and he sure made life interesting. Finally his fights with club personnel and his unwillingness to run out plays sank him.

Manny being Manny - we'll never hear that again as Red Sox fans. I for one will miss him, but it was also time for him to go. It is akin to the Nomar situation in 2004, and that turned out well for all parties. Good luck in LA, Manny, we'll miss you. Welcome to Boston, Jason Bay.
The profile shot I took during batting practice, and the other is Manny hitting home run number 505 - I will always remember that moment.

This is a good story...I like seeing all the photos of Manny, and the comments. I'll be back to read more!

Had a chance to see Manny in person on May 15th when the Sox played the Orioles at Camden Yards.
"Manny was just being Manny" when he made a spectacular catch in deep left field, jumped up and high-fived a fan and then turned around and threw to double-up on Audrey Huff trying to make it back to first base for the third out of the inning.
Unfortunately for the Sox, the O's came from behind on a Grand Slam to win the day.

They traded .299, 20 HR, 68 RBI, clueless fielder, and an attitude for .282, 22 HR, and 64 RBI and a moderate fielder. Granted, Manny has HOF credentials, but does not seem to be getting better in his 15th season. Pretty good value it seems. The photo was taken at Minute Maid Park in Houston. The game that the Red Sox won there.

Good riddance, Manny. Manny being Manny has been played out and it is getting really old. It's only a matter of time before he pulls the same shenanigans as a Dodger. He doesn't save that team and put them on track for a playoff run. I think the Red Sox needed a solid player who actually has respect for the team, fans, and city of Boston. And they got that in Jason Bay. Plus, Bay has power. He's shown that in the past. I think he's a stable guy in the outfield for them.
With every winner, there's a loser. The loser here is Joe Torre. The cool hand skipper gets himself a headache to deal with.

Manny may have the bat but when it comes down to it his attitude is what got him traded. In the beginning, I was with everyone on the "Manny being Manny" but the comments in the past week were the end of the line. Hope him and Nomar are happy together in LA

"Manny being Manny" During the course of this game on May 25, 2008 against the Oakland Athletics in Oakland, CA, he dropped an easy fly ball. The Sox lost the game 6-3.
In the last couple of days, Manny said that the Red Sox don't deserve a player like him. Speaking as a lifelong Red Sox fan, "Thanks Manny for your contributions over the last 7+ years. But don't let the door hit you on your way out!"

Manny Ramirez has issues with keeping his thoughts curtailed. Don't bite the hand that feeds you, Manny!!

Personally I think this was a really bad deal. You get rid of 3 players, 7 mil just to get rid of a player. The player you get in return is not as good as one of the three, AND if they kept him they would have had 2 draft pics next year...
Hope it works out!

This was the game Red Sox vs. Baltimore. On July 13th, 2008. It was a great game, and we won. I know a lot of people that are happy that we traded Manny.

My photo is of Manny receiving his 2007 World Series ring at Opening Day at Fenway this year.
Like many other Red Sox fans, I will miss Manny -- he's a great player and good for a few laughs -- but will not miss the drama. I'm looking forward to seeing how Bay fits into the team.
