Epic Home Run Derby Reading Phillies Declare War on Insurability (Video)

The Reading Phillies, a minor-league affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, is planning a home run derby that raises the bar to dizzying heights. The home run derby will involve all-star batters swinging for the fences, but with a few extras:

  • A bar on 2nd base
  • VIP area in the infield
  • live music at home plate
  • oysters on 3rd
  • an intern on a trampoline, trying to catch balls/not get hit
  • an intern in a dunk tank
  • an intern hanging from a crane, tempting fate (where are all these interns coming from?)

Okay, at this point, general manager Scott Hunsicker is just making stuff up off the top of his head, right? It's more like Calvinball than baseball.

Well, if you want to see the most complicated and uninsurable home run derby ever attempted, check out the Reading Phillies' home run derby on July 10, 2012. Wear protective gear.
