The Boston Red Sox released a new series of hats and uniforms during this past offseason. They waited a while before releasing their latest monstrosity: official pink Red Sox hats with scratch 'n' sniff watermelons.

The new pink watermelon Red Sox hats are considered a step down the reviled pink Red Sox hats, which the team released in an effort to appeal to female fans. For many hardcore Sox supporters, the pink hats came to represent the legions of fairweather fans that have gotten on the Red Sox bandwagon since their 2004 World Series win. The new pink watermelon hats, obviously designed for young girls, will no doubt be viewed with scorn, just another marketing attempt designed to indoctrinate a new generation of bandwagon Red Sox fans.

Over the years, sports franchises have tried to reach out to casual fans by selling official merchandise in a rainbow of colors. Teams will even put out gear using the same colors of their arch-rivals. Earlier this year, Adidas produced a Los Angeles Lakers shirt in Celtic green.

The Celtic Green Lakers shirt was considered the worst piece of sports merchandise this year, but the Red Sox watermelon hat marks a new low. Considering the pink Red Sox hat backlash, God only knows how Red Sox Nation will react to the new pink Red Sox Watermelon Scratch & Sniff hats.

Here is a pic of the Watermelon Red Sox PInk Watermelon Scratch And Sniff Hats.
