REDSKINS ROOKIES

WR BRANDON BANKS:  Two words are good enough to describe Mr. Banks.  DIFFERENCE MAKER.  It has been a long time since Redskins fans had a legitimate threat on special teams.  Long time since Redskins fans saw a vertically inclined punt return unit. They have one now.  Banks has proven it in two consecutive games.  It is not just his excellent speed that makes Banks a threat, but his moves and vision.  He follows the blocks, hits the created lane, then speed takes over.  There has been some talk about his possible fumbling propensity.  I will address that in two parts.  First, he has not fumbled yet, so drop it.  Second, given the legitimate threat he provides, the field position he delivers, the risk of fumbling is worth the gain as a whole.  Finally, I still think Banks can be a significant part of the Redskins passing offense.  There is a critical place for small, speedy guys in a passing offense.  The Redskins could use some of that play making ability in the pass offense.  Follow Banks on Twitter.

TE LOGAN PAULSEN:Logan Paulsen was inactive in week 5.   The  (READ FULL ARTICLE BY CLICKING CONTUINUE READING)continuing need for running backs and offensive lineman to be active will likely keep Paulsen inactive.

LB PERRY RILEY:  Riley was inactive again in Week 5.  I have to wonder if his inactive status has to do with injury, lack of special teams contributions, or if he is not grasping the system.  fact is, Riley was drafted in the 4thround by Jim Haslett to play in the 3-4 defensive scheme, but has yet to make a meaningful showing in the system.  I will have to assume it has more to do with special teams.  However, look at the contributionsthey are getting from Chris Horton and Roydell Williams.  I would like to see Riley get a shot in reserve.  I was impressed with his play and hustle in the pre-season.

RB KEILAND WILLIAMS:  The injury to Clinton Portis changed the fortunes of Keiland Williams.  Williams was released to make room for Brandon Banks on the active roster just two weeks ago.  Then he was resigned to the practice squad.  Now with Portis out 4 to 6 week, Williams is back on the active roster as the third running back, behind Ryan Torain and Chad Simpson.  Williams could see more of an active role in pass rushing situations, both in terms of blocking and receiving.

OT TRENT WILLIAMS:  Trent Williams played hard last week facing a ferocious Green Bay pass rush.  He also got injured again, causing pause, fear, and anxiety for Redskins fans.  Got to admit, I beginning to question Williams durability.  It is only Week 6 and Williams has spent a majority of it hurt.  I don’t question the ability, the impact he makes on the offensive line, and the legit offensive tackle that he has become, I am just a bit concerned with the health factor and Trent Williams.  Maybe we were spoiled for years of health with Chris Samuels after he was drafted in 2000.    Williams did not practice and was not in pads yesterday.  However, he is expected to be in pads and practice today.  Status for Sunday night is still questionable.  The Redskins need Trent Williams healthy.  We hope for Trent Williams to have a speedy recovery with his knee.  Wait, maybe speedy is not the appropriate word.  Wouldn’t want Trent to take that a different way than what is meant.
