The NFL free agency just got underway and a record deal has already been signed. Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth agreed to a $100 million 7 year contract with the Washington Redskins which is the biggest pay cheque ever issued to a defensive player.
"Albert is a difference maker and his physical presence will strengthen our defence," Redskins head coach Jim Zorn said.
"He is a significant addition to our team and we are excited to have a player of his ability and toughness as a member of the Redskins."
Haynesworth is also known for his infamous incident in 2006 when he purposely stepped on the head of Dallas centre Andre Gurode whose helmet came off during a touchdown. Gurode received 30 stitches around his right eye and Hayneworth was suspended for 5 games.
Haynesworth has a record of 271 tackles, including 199 solo, and 24 sacks while forcing 6 fumbles in 90 games.
