BIG-MATCH FACTS

Southend and Doncaster kicked off the end of season play-offs with a fiercely contested goalless draw at Roots Hall last Friday night. The Yorkshire club ended with 10-men, after Paul Hefferman's 87th minute red card for head-butting Peter Clarke.

Rovers were promoted back to the Football League by winning the Conference Play Offs in 2003, and immediately gained promotion to League One as champions of the Nationwide League Division Three. They have not played second tier soccer since 1958.

Southend are competing in the play-offs for the second time in four seasons, and are hoping to return to the Championship at the first time of asking.
