[Update -- May 25] David Reutimann won the postponed NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 Race. The race was delayed until Monday afternoon yesterday due to precipitation on the track. Today, the race was completed but cut short by more rain, going down in history as the shortest Coca-Cola 600 Race ever.
May 24 -- NASCAR's race -- Coca-Cola 600 -- was postponed until Monday noon ET due to rain drenching the track and making it unsafe for drivers to race on. Coca-Cola 600 is a 600-mile race held annually at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolinathe Memorial Day weekend. It is the longest automobile race conducted on an oval track anywhere in the world. This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the race, so special celebrations had to be delayed as well, making the crowd of 140,000 at Lowe's Speedway particularly unhappy about the delay. The race organizers said there was not enough time to dry the track and conclude the race at a reasonable hour.

The Coca-Cola 600 typically drones on for four-and-a-half hours.
Even a few raindrops are enough to scuttle NASCAR races because the cars' tires don't have any treads.
This year marks the 50th running of NASCAR's lone 600-miler. And a golden-anniversary celebration was staged for the occasion, with past 600 champions such as Richard and Kyle Petty, Bobby and Donnie Allison, Buddy Baker and Marvin Panch, introduced during pre-race festivities.
It was the first time in the event's history that rain forced a postponement.
