Rey Mysterio, the WWE Wrestler has been suspended for drug use for 30 days starting September 2nd, as a result of his violation of the WWE's drug testing policy. He will work on the SmackDown fight in Cleveland on Tuesday September 1, but after that he will be forced to sit out for a month.

This is the first time he has violated the WWE's drug testing policy, but this is not his first time being associated with drugs.

On March 19, 2007, the official website of Sports Illustrated posted an article in its continuing series investigating a steroid and HGH ring used by a number of professional athletes in several sports. The article mentioned several current and former WWE wrestlers — including Mysterio — as being tied to the ring.

Mysterio apparently took anabolic steroids and other prescription drugs, and WWE later commented that this incident preceeded the drug testing system, which began in February 2006. Mysterio never commented.

Later that year however, after Chris Benoit's double murder and suicide, Mysterio's name was linked to Benoit's physician Dr. Phil Astin III, who was later sentenced to 10 years in prison for illegally dispensing prescription drugs. One of his patients was most likely Mysterio.

Mysterio said he was prescribed pain killers by Astin, and denied ever taking steroids.
