Centerfielder Rick Ankiel will sign a $3.25 million contract with the Kansas City Royals. Rick Ankiel, a free agent, is agreeing to a one-year deal, with a mutual option for a $6 million deal for 2011.

Rick Ankiel wa a pitcher-turned-outfielder with the St. Louis Cardinals. The switch was announced by Tim Brown on Yahoo! Sports. Rick Ankiel is basically moving across the street.

Ankiel gets $2.75 million this year, and the agreement includes a $6 million mutual option for 2011 with a $500,000 buyout.

Ankiel, who can cover ground and has a strong arm, is considered a better center fielder than those players or Mitch Maier, who is also on the roster.
