Wide attention has been drawn towards the decisive football match to be played between the national teams of Brazil and Argentina on September 5th in Rosario, Argentina. Both teams will confront hoping to secure a place in the 2010 South Africa World Cup. However, another major sports event will unfold this coming weekend.

The XIII Meia Maratona do Rio de Janeiro is a well-known local competition that will take place in the Cidade Maravilhosa on September 6th. Amateur and professional athletes of both genders will compete through the avenues of Rio in a challenge that extends more than 21 kilometers, starting at São Conrado Beach and finishing at Aterro do Flamengo. 

Participant will be divided in groups, acording to the preparation level of the athletes involved. Professional groups will depart first. Following, amateur athletes will be given the chance to run the streets of Rio de Janeiro's Zona Sul. 

Prices will be granted in various categories and the organizazers expects more than 100.000 people to turn to the city's streets to witness the Marathon's highlights.
