Everybody's favorite NBA eccentric Ron Artest has filed paperwork to legally change his name to Metta World Peace.

According to TMZ, Ron Artest filed a petition in L.A. County Superior Court to have his named changed to Metta World Peace.

What Does Metta World Peace Mean?

Who knows? This is Ron Artest we're talking about here.

Metta is supposed to mean "loving kindness" or something like that. World Peace, of course, is what every Miss America pageant contestant wants more than anything else. 

Artest has always been a citizen of the world. About a year ago, he got a haircut that featured the word 'Defense' Written in Japanese, Hebrew and Hindi.

Strangely, Ron Artest wouldn't be the first NBA player to change his name to something with "World" in it. Back in the 70s, Philadelphia 76ers guard Lloyd Free changed his name to World B. Free. Free still works for the 76ers.
