Ron MacLean 911 Video: 9/11 May 9, 2012 Transcript
During a May 9, 2012 Game Between the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals, Ron MacLean Kinda Compared NHL Players To 911 Responders. Here is Video
Well, this is awkward. Ron MacLean began CBC's coverage of Game 6 between the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers by comparing them to 9/11 first responders. As a rule, Ron MacLean seems like a relatively well-intentioned soul, but he may have lost his way during a May 9, 2012 CBC broadcast.
During the opening CBC's coverage of the Washington Capitals-New York Rangers game, MacLean mentioned 9/11 during his intro. Usually not a good way to kick things off.
Here is a transcript of what Ron MacLean said:
"New York and Washington: The economic and political engines of America. United in the birth of the country. They're also linked in tragedy. The twin targets of the coordinated attacks on 9/11 and it's crazy to compare what the emergency responders did in that time. But a spirit has to start somewhere. And as you enjoy the series between the Washington Capitals and the New York Rangers, you can't help but be struck by the players and the way they played these games they are like police officers. They are like firefighters. You can't fight fire with ego."
Word of advice to Mr. MacLean: we know you mean well, but sometimes you try too hard. You should just relax and have a good time, like that time you partied shirtless. That was awesome.
