New Zealand will not have the services of Jesse Ryder for the one-off Test against Zimbabwe starting on Tuesday after a right calf strain ruled the left-hander out.

Ryder injured himself while bowling in a warm-up game against Zimbabwe A. He bowled three deliveries before feeling some discomfort. An ultra-scan taken earlier also confirmed the injury as a calf strain.

New Zealand team manager Manager Mike Sandle said: "Initially we were hopeful the injury wasn't too serious but unfortunately the scan showed damage to Jesse's calf and he will miss the Test match.

"He will return to New Zealand to undergo further assessment and a period of rehabilitation.

"Although he isn't available for our next match the medical team are confident he will be fit for and available for selection for December's Test series in Australia."

New Zealand cricket has not named any replacement for Ryder which means that the squad is now down to thirteen as Kyle Mills too was ruled out due to a torn abductor muscle.

The Kiwis are also without the services of Tim Southee, who is recovering from a cartilage damage in his left knee.

New Zealand squad: Ross Taylor (c), Graeme Aldridge, Doug Bracewell, Dean Brownlie, Martin Guptill, Chris Martin, Brendon McCullum, Andy McKay, Jeetan Patel, Daniel Vettori, Kane Williamson, BJ Watling, Reece Young.
