RUN-DRC "D-Rose of Chicago" the 2K11 NBA MVP
Derrick Rose the superstar point guard of the Chicago Bulls who goes by D-Rose or his new nickname RUN-DRC "D-Rose of Chicago" has been named the NBA MVP. Rose is the youngest player to win the award at 22-years, 7-months.
The NBA will celebrate its 65th Anniversary date of being founded on June 6, 2011. Rose's MVP award adds to the historical 65th Anniversary of the league being formed. The NBA was founded on June 6, 1946 in New York City.
The previous youngest player to win the NBA MVP was Wes Unseld at age 23 during the 1968-69 season when he also won the Rookie of the Year for the then Baltimore Bullets.
Unseld is one of only 2 players (Wilt Chamberlain) in NBA history to be named Rookie of the Year and MVP in the same season.
Rose averaged 25 ppg, 7.5 apg, and 4 rebounds per contest. He became only the 7th player in NBA history to do so joining Michael Jordan, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, Larry Bird, LeBron James, and Dwyane Wade.
Derrick led the Bulls to a 62-20 regular season record. The 62-wins were the best team out-put since 1998 the last championship season of the Jordan-Pippen era.
The Bulls finished with the best record in the league, and will have home-court all the way to the NBA Finals as long as they remain in the playoffs.
Chicago lost game-one of the Eastern Conference semi-finals to the Atlanta Hawks last night 103-95.
Rose will now join LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant as the top NBA players in the league that are icons to the hoops and hip-hop culture.
Shaquille O'Neal, Kevin Garnett, Stephon Marbury, Tracy McGrady, and Allen Iverson were the past generation of star players that had iconic impact to the culture fusion of hoops and hip-hop.
Derrick shares the same birthday as hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons who is the older brother to Joseph "RUN" Simmons. RUN was one of the founding members of the pioneering rap group RUN-DMC.
Since 2009 June has been proclaimed and observed as NBHHCM (National Basketball & Hip-Hop Culture Month). Derrick Rose winning the NBA MVP award will become a historical event celebrated during NBHHCM 2K11.
