For the second year in a row, Russia defeated Canada at the Finals of the IIHF World Championships. Despite a strong showing by Canada, the Russians came out with a 2-1 victory.

Canada opened the scoring just over five minutes into the game when Jason Spezza scored off a rebound from a slap shot by defenceman Shea Weber. Russia's Oleg Saprykin tied it soon after on the power play.

Nashville Predators forward Alexander Radulov scored the game winner in the second period. Russian goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov held the fort as Canada poured on pressure in the third period.

The last time Russia won back-to-back world titleswas back in 1989 and 1990.
