The Rutgers vs St. John's March 9, 2011 Game Was Controversial. Did the Refs Blow a Call at the End of the Game? Here are Pics and Video

There was plenty of controversy at the end of the Rutgers vs St. John's game during the Big East 2011 tournament.

Down 65-63 with 4.9 seconds remaining, Rutgers attempted a long pass downcourt that was intercepted by Justin Brownlee who appeared to travel and/or step out of bounds with less than two seconds left in the game.

The ball should have gone to Rutgers, but the no-call effectively ended the game.

Twitter went insane at the ending of the Rutgers-St. John's game.

Writer Chuck Klosterman said:

"Rutgers-St. John's ended like the gold medal game from the '72 Olympics."

ESPN's Bill Simmons wrote:

"Wow! Never realized that the refs could have checked out instant replay to save that last 1.6 seconds. Welcome to our next sports scandal."

ESPN's Jay Bilas wrote:

"Really poor job by the officials in the Rutgers-St. John's game. No excuse for a performance like that. That crew should not advance."

Bubba Prog posted a photo from the end of  Rutgers-St. John's that shows the St. John's player with his foot out of bounds.

Here is the Rutgers-St. John's out of bounds video.
