Peachtree road race 2009 aftermath

Sammy Kitwara from Kenya has won the 40th Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta this 4th of July, with an impressive time of 27:21 in his first time running the race.

Lineth Chepkurui, also from Kenya, won for the women in her first Peachtree Road Race.

For the men, Ridouane Harroufi from Morocco came second and Gashu Ibrahim Jeilan from Ethiopia came third.

Marcel Hug from Switzerland and Edith Hunkeler won in the wheelchair division.

Hunkeler, a 5-time Peachtree winner, defended her title with a course-record 23:09.98, surpassing the previous mark of 23:11.

About 55,000 runners took part in the race this year. The run is a 10 kilometer road race and was often the most participated running event in the world.
