A Nasty Fight Broke Out Between San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders Fans During an August 20, 2011 NFL Preseason Game. Here is the 49ers-Raiders Fan Fight Video
The NFL preseason is just underway but some fans are already in mid-season form. There was more than one occasion of violence during NFL preseason games that took place on August 19 and 20, 2011.
The San Francisco 49ers-Oakland Raiders game was marred by violence. Two people were shot outside Candlestick Park, although it has not been determined if the victims were fans of one team or the other.
What can be confirmed is a brawl that took place between 49ers fans and Raiders fans inside Candlestick park. There was reportedly a fight in the bathroom and a huge brawl in the stands.
The Raiders-49ers fan fight was so bad, it prompted the mayors of Oakland and San Francisco to issue a joint statement.
"The incidents ... are completely unacceptable and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Fans come to our stadiums to enjoy an afternoon of football, not to be subjected to intimidation or violence. These games are family events and the types of images we witnessed last night have no place in our arenas."
The 49ers-Raiders fan fight video is particularly troublesome considering the recent beating of Bryan Stow, the San Francisco Giants fan who was nearly beaten to death while attending a game at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles.
Fights reportedly broke out during a Ravens pre-season game as well.
UPDATE: It looks like the brawls at the Niners-Raiders game caught the attention of NFL officials. Journalist Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News wrote via Twitter: "Breaking news from a high-ranking NFL source: The 49ers and Raiders will discontinue their exhibition season annual game."
