Scott Gomez, esteemed NHL hockey forward, has been traded from the New York Rangers to the Montreal Canadiens, for former Canadiens forward Chris Higgins.

Gomez was the Rangers' biggest contract, having signed a $51.5 million, seven-year deal in 2007. According to the New York Daily News, Gomez played 77 games, including 16 goals and 42 assists.

Higgins collected 84 goals and 67 assists with the Canadiens, achieving career highs in the 2007-08 season in almost every player statistic (e.g. goals, games played, assists, power-play goals, game-winning goals, shots, and points).

Other players traded along with Gomez and Higgins were Rangers forward Tom Pyatt and defenseman Mike Busto, and Canadiens defensemen Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko.

The Rangers traded forwards Scott Gomez and Tom Pyatt and defenseman Mike Busto to the Montreal Canadiens for forward Chris Higgins and defensemen Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko Tuesday. The move helps open cap space for the Rangers as NHL free agency begins Wednesday.
