Shaun White, The Flying Tomato, had a nasty crash during a practice run before the snowboarding star went on to win gold at the Winter X Games last night. He is fine however, and even though he took a nasty fall just 45 minutes before he was due to compete, he is still going to be in the Winter Olympics in just under two weeks time.

Shaun White Crash at Winter X Games 2010 During Superpipe Practice

Shaun White was practicing the double mctwist 1260, which is so difficult that he got his own private halfpipe to practice on in Colorado last year; he has to maintain about 18 feet of air and incorporate two end-over-end barrel roll flips with three and a half rotations. It was when he was practicing this that he didn't judge the landing properly and took a hit on the chin and his helmet came flying off.

He was frustrated but ok, and he went on to win gold with that move with a score of 95.33.

“That trick has been giving me a hard time. It felt good to get it down,” White said after the first run. He later said it was a “weird decision” to compete after the crash, but he knew that he had to.

The X Games is Shaun's third win in a row in the superpipe. Iouri Podladtchikov from Switzerland took silver, and Kazuhiro Kokubo from Japan took bronze.
