NP Rank:
Ski Resorts Starting to Open Across Sierra
The snow is falling and with some luck and a little help from mother nature the Sierra Nevada my have a good ski season.
As I write this report the rain is falling here in Reno which means snow is falling in the High Country.
So wax your boards and get ready to have some winter fun.
Update 10/03/08... 2131 PST... Snow Falling in Reno
The slopes are now officially open at one California ski resort.
Thanks to this weekend's snowstorm, Mammoth Mountain is the first Sierra ski resort to crank up the lifts this season - one lift anyway.
Mammoth opened the Broadway chair after a foot-and-a-half of natural and some manmade snow.
Mammoth wasn't supposed to open for another ten days.
Meanwhile, at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe, officials there say they're working hard to make this year a great skiing season.
And over at Diamond Peak, workers are trying to finish up a $4 million project. "We're very excited to be expanding our base lodge and make it better for customers," says Kayla Anderson.
Diamond Peak opens to skiers December 11th.
Mt. Rose is expected to open around Thanksgiving.

reno_fog, I like this story. It's good stuff. I know many are waiting eagerly for the slopes to open.

Its a pretty slow season at local mountains in Vancouver. I think Whistler is opening late November. Can't wait to start teaching and shredding again.

reno_fog, Thanks for the heads up! I hope to make it up that way later this season.
