Sony marches to quarterfinals, but Simon stopped

Johor Bahru (ANTARA News) - Indonesian single shuttler, Sony Kuncoro, advanced to the finals after trouncing Taiwanese opponent Hsieh Yu Shin in the 2008 Asian Badminton Championships in Johor Bahru stadium Thursday evening.

Sony beat Hsieh 21-13 and 21-12, while fellow countryman Simon Santoso was defeated in straight sets 17-21 and 12-21 by Chinese Chen Jin.

Sony said he was in perfect health, and could easily defeat his opponent. With the victory, he has to face Malaysia`s Muhammad Hafiz Hasim.

Success was also achieved by two Indonesian mixed doubles Nova Widianto and Liliyana Natsir, and Flandy Limpele and Vita Marissa, who also managed to advance to the quarter finals. But mixed doubles Muhammad Rijal and Greysia suffered a defeat.

First seeded Nova and Liliyana easily beat Korea`s Hwang Ji Man and Kim Min Jung in straight sets 21-11 and 21-11, while mixed doubles Flandy and Vita easily defeated Taiwan`s Chne Hung Ling and Chin Chi Chou 21-14 and 21-15. (*) end
