Spain to Meet Argentina in Davis Cup Final by Joe Hachem

Spain, favoured at a whopping price tag of -1600 contested the semi-final tie against defending champions United States (-700), meanwhile Argentina (-200) battled against 2006 champions Russia (+150). The tennis betting results are in and the favourites proved to be victorious as a Rafael Nadal inspired Spain blew the United States 4-1 while Argentina persevered against Russia in the fifth rubber thanks to a stirring performance by hot tennis betting ticket Juan Martin Del Potro.

Spain 4, United States 1
From the onset, the writing was already on the wall. The defending champions were not given much of a chance by the bookies seeing that they were heading to Spain, where the clay courts answered only to their masters.  When Bob Bryan – of the Bryan’s doubles duo – and James Blake begged off their Davis Cup duty, their tie seemed nothing but a formality – Spain’s rite of passage.
Clay court King Rafael Nadal opened Spain’s bid on Day 1 defeating Sam Querrey and on Day 3, clubbing 60 winners against Andy Roddick in a near perfect display of tennis, he clinched the decisive rubber 6-4, 6-0, 6-4 to give Spain the unbeatable 3-1 edge.  Roddick had entered the tie with a nine-match winning streak in Davis Cup singles action but lost a heartbreaker on day 1, 8-6 in the fifth set to David Ferrer to put the United States down 0-2. Coming against the best clay-courter ever, Rafael Nadal in the fourth rubber was a feat in the impossible.

Argentina 3, Russia 2
David Nalbandian opened Argentina’s triumphant Davis Cup semi-final tie against Russia with a straight set victory over Igor Andreev. Their early lead was further extended by Juan Martin Del Potro when he beat Nikolay Davydenko in the second rubber on Friday to five Argentina the 2-0 edge. However, Russia rallied back with back-to-back victories in the next two rubbers. Igor Kunitsyn and Dmitry Tursunov won the doubles match over Guillermo Canas and David Nalbandian to bring the score to 2-1 and Davydenko kept Russia’s hope alive when he beat Nalbandian 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(2), 6-0.
But when push came to shove it was the rising tennis sensation, Juan Martin Del Potro who had the answer when he propelled Argentina into the finals with a commanding 6-4, 6-2, 6-1 victory against Igor Andreev.
