Spiderman: Alain Robert Scales Burj Khalifa
French Climber Alain Robert Climbs Burj Khalifa
French climber Alain Robert, who is aptly known as "Spiderman", climbed the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Robert completed the Burj Khalifa climb in just over six hours, which was in line with his expectations.
At 2,717 feet, the Burj Khalifa (colloquially known as the Burj Dubai) is the tallest building in the world.
Alain Robert has scaled iconic buildings around the world, including the former tallest building, Taipei 101. The Burj Khalifa climb was done with a safety harness, as per the requirements. Had Alain Robert attempted the Burj Khalifa climb as a free solo, he would likely have been arrested. Not that Alain Robert is a stranger to getting arrested.
Alain Robert suffers from vertigo, due to an inner ear injury.
If you're into urban climbing (and how could you not be?), check out a true pioneer: George Willig, whose Going It Alone documents the first (and only) aid ascent of the the South Tower (WTC2) of the Word Trade Center, and was arrested by cheering cops at the top.
