(To read more you can go to my blog by clicking here, otherwise enjoy the rankings and I look forward to getting your feedback! Thanks NowPublic!)
Hello! and welcome back to
another edition of my power rankings for week 12 of NFL season. Sports
Hut welcomes your questions and comments, so make sure to get your
opinions out there! Interesting week to say the least. Who would have
thought that the disaster that was the Green Bay Packers (9-1) would be
off to one of the best starts in their franchise's history? Did anyone
anticipate a complete collapse in Indianapolis? I will be posting my
finalized picks for this week, and my new ones for next within the next
day or so (sorry for not posting them this week). So without further
ado, lets get to it...
*************************************************
1) New England Patriots (10-0): Again,
you can't argue with perfection. This may be the best team that has
come through the league in quite some time...but only time will tell.
Personally, I don't believe the Patriots will go undefeated. Not
because they aren't capable, but because they have bigger things to
worry about (namely keeping their key starters healthy for their super
bowl run). The game this week at Buffalo once again proved they can,
and will, run all over your defense no-matter who you are. Props to the
Bills for taking the beating like professionals on a night when Kevin
Everett (severely injured spinal chord in a game earlier this season)
made a video statement before the game. It was feared that Everett
could die from the severity of his injuries, and was initially told he
would never walk again. He has defied all odds, and for that I am sure
we are can all agree to be thankful.
2) Green Bay Packers (9-1): Best
start for a Packers team since the Vince Lombardi era. You have got to
take the Packers at #2 right? Their offense is on fire. Favre gets
younger and younger every week, it seems. Donald Driver and Greg
Jennings continue to be no brainers at the WR position boasting almost
identical stats the past few weeks. We will see what Favre and the
Packers have up their sleeves in a Thanksgiving day showdown against
the Detroit Lions.
3) Dallas Cowboys (9-1): Not
to be outdone by the Patriot's Randy Moss, T.O. managed to haul in FOUR
(yes 4) TD passes this week against the Washington Redskins. It is a
franchise-tying record. What's possibly even more amazing is the fact
that we haven't heard a peep out of the guy this season. I think I like
the new T.O. He seems like a team player and a little more relaxed.
Keep it up, and I may begin to respect you again.
4) Indianapolis Colts (8-2):
This one and the next ranking come in the the exact order they should
be in. The Colts have had somewhat of an epic failure this season, even
though they are still barely squeaking out games. After to shooting out
to a 7-o start, they seem more dazed and confused than anything. I
think I actually saw fear in Peyton Manning's eyes this week... and you
know what? That scares me too. Stop it Peyton. Get back to the high
pressure, audible happy, gun slinging, sharpshooter you are and rally
your team. You belong in the playoffs---and not as a wild card team.
5) Jacksonville Jaguars (7-3): Jacksonville
is one game back from the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC south...and
I',m not completely convinced Indy will hold that lead. The last 6
games of the season will be crucial for both teams. More-so for Indy.
6) Seattle Seahawks (6-4): The
reason I am sticking the Hawks at #6 is for a number of reasons. First,
they look worlds better on offense than they have in a long time. They
were able to ignore a 14-0 deficit to begin the game, and win it.
Second,I am convinced Seattle can win-out. Sure they have to go on the
road to St. Louis next week and will spend 3 of their last 5 games on
the road...but look who they are up against. Without going into too
much detail, I can say with relative certainty that Seattle can beat
the Rams, Eagles, Panthers....and the falcons.....on the road. Don't
prove me wrong Seattle.
7) New York Giants(7-3): Not
a ton to say here. The Giants continue to play well, and have earned a
spot this high up on this list through sheer will. However, the loss of
LB Mathias Kiwanuka may cause some damage.
8) Pittsburgh Steelers (7-3): Once
again the Steelers get my "blech!" vote of the week. When you can't
lock down a win against a battered Jets team, you have no business
being ranked at #8. I am a generous guy. Try again next week.
9) Cleveland Browns (6-4): Wow.
What a stretch of games it has been for the Browns eh? How many OT's
have they been in now? This weeks game was much like a near-death
experience for the Browns when they were originally thought to have
missed a game-tying field goal that would have put them into OT
(again). Half the Baltimore Raven's team had already hit the showers
before replay officials reversed the call. The Browns eventually won
the game in overtime by the boot of Phil Dawson's 33-yard field goal. I
wonder if the Browns saw a bright light at the end of a dark tunnel
before they were jolted back into consciousness?
10) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-4): I
am still trying to figure out what Tampa Bay is doing up here. Let Jeff
Garcia carry you into the playoffs. Thats about all I have to say on
that one.
11) Tennessee Titans (6-4): Tough
loss this week at Denver, although I can't say I didn't see it coming.
Vince young had two fourth quarter interceptions (on consecutive
drives) that effectively killed any chance of a comeback. On a
high-note Young did throw for another career high 305 yards and a TD
this week. Not surprisingly, he was also the team's leading rusher with
74 yards and a TD. Go figure. You got guts kid, I'll give you that.
12) Detroit Lions (6-4): Jon
Kitna is really the reason behind Detroit's success this year. Although
the Lions lost their game against a much better Giant's team, Kitna was
off the hook with 377 yards passing. This guy draws a bulls-eye on his
receiver's jerseys every Sunday. Nothing short of pure ability with the
Lion's passing game this year.
13) Denver Broncos (5-5): Jay
Cutler is looking better every week. He was able to hold a lead over
the Titans this week, and not let that lead fade. Andre Hall made a
rather impressive entrance for a rookie when he raced for a 62-yard
touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
14) Sand Diego Chargers (5-5): What a mess.
15) Philedelpia Eagles (5-5): Where
do the Eagles fit in the scheme of mediocre teams you might ask? Well,
right here at #15. They have the ability to do some damage with McNabb
and Westbrook in the backfield, but for whatever reason they choose to
not do so...though they managed to beat an absolutely horrendous Miami
Dolphins team (0-10). You don't get props at the Sports Hut for doing
that though. Try harder.
16) Houston Texans (5-5): Such
a good start for such a bad team. Beating New Orleans at home was a
nice touch, though. Mario Williams (1st round draft pick in 2006) is
getting better. I think the Texans are destined to be much improved
next season. Still trying to get everyone on the same page. I'm OK with
that, you're a young team. Keep at it.
17) Buffalo Bills (5-5): A
truly decent team with a record that doesn't show it. I would much
rather have had them in the top 12, but obviously they don't make the
cut record-wise. You can't blame them for getting run over completely
by the Patriots this week. You are not alone Buffalo. Would have been
nice to win a game for your boy Kevin Everett, but even I know that miracles don't grow on trees these days.
18) Arizona Cardinals (5-5): A
close one till the very end. Arizona managed a win over the Cincinnati
Bengals, and they have their defense to thank for that; with an
interception by Antrel Rolle with 43 seconds remaining in the 4th
quarter. The Cardinals are not that good. They really aren't. They will
be in the future, but they are not now. Period.
19) Washington Redskins (5-5):
Have lost their past two games. Appear to be OK, and in recovery mode.
Next week is a chance to make up some ground against Tampa Bay.
20) New Orleans Saints (4-6): Really bad showing from the Saints this year. I'm starting to think last year was a fluke.
*********************************************************************
As always, if you fall below the 20th rank, you are just that: a rank.
