St. Jude Memphis Marathon 2008 Results: Jeff Jonaitis and Muluye Gurma Finish First
Illinois resident Jeff Jonaitis and Muluye Gurma of Maryland won the 2008 St. Jude Memphis Marathon.
Jonaitis was running in just his third marathon and finished with a time of 2 hours, 19 minutes and 47 seconds. The 27-year-old finished almost a minute ahead of second-place finisher Stephen Chemlany.
Gurma won the women's division with a time of 2 hours, 44 minutes, and 55 seconds. Gurma, a native of Ethiopia, finished just four seconds ahead of New York's Mseret Kotu.
In the half marathon, U.S. Olympian steeplechaser and Memphis resident Josh McAdams had a winning time of 1:07.53. McAdams competed in the steeplechase at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and he hopes to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Nineteen-year-old Kelsey Armstrong won the women's half marathon in 1:23.47.

I ran the half marathon with several friends. It was an awesome race! Great crowd support, plenty of water stations, and awesome bands. The only complaint I have with the race was the pitiful awards ceremony..what a joke. Memphis is a wonderful place to race if you haven't tried this event.
