USC tailback Stafon Johnson suffered a throat injury while weightlifting Monday morning. The Stafon Johnson injury was serious enough that doctors performed surgery on the USC star this afternoon.

Stafon Johnson was bench-pressing with a spotter in Heritage Hall's weight room when the bar slipped out of his hand and fell onto his throat. Such injuries are rare as the bench press is considered one of the safest exercises you can do in the weight room.

USC officials says it's too soon determine how long Stafon Johnson will need to recover.

Disagree with the writer when he says,"bench press is considered one of the safest exercises you can do in the weight room" .I've trained for 24 years and the bench press, squat, and military press are most dangerous simply due to the poundages used in those exercises. Most of the "resucues" I have made were on squat & bench. However, in almost every case, guys DID NOT have spotters. Hope the kid make a nice recovery.
