Steve Smith-Jake Delhomme Video: WR Tells QB He Doesn't Like Him

Jake Delhomme didn't have a good week last week. After bombing in the playoffs last season, Delhomme had a terrible performance in the Panther's season opener. Delhomme was ultimately benched and star receiver Steve Smith came over to him and tried to comfort him. Fortunately, a Steve Smith-Jake Delhomme video has been released illustrating Smith's rather interesting methods for motivating teammates.

So what did Steve Smith say to Jake Delhomme? How about, "I never liked you as a quarterback." Not exactly what you need to hear when your confidence is shaky. 

Here's a Jake Delhomme-Steve Smith transcript:

Delhomme: “I apologize, bro.”

Smith: “Hey, I know you feel like crap. I mean, you’re not a very handsome guy anyway, so. But, the performer, the quarterback … I never really liked you as a quarterback. But as a person, that’s who I love. I love you as a person.”

Delhomme: “I appreciate it. [Inaudible] I just didn’t get enough on that damn ball. I knew where I was throwing it, I just threw it too high.”

Judging from Jake Delhomme's reaction, it's pretty clear that Steve Smith is just joking. Odds are, if Steve Smith really did think Jake Delhomme was a bad quarterback he likely would have been a lot more vocal about it. And Jake Delhomme likely wouldn't have sat there passively. 

More than anything, the Jake Delhomme-Steve Smith video is an interesting glimpse into how teammates interact with other and try to motivate each other when they are down.
