Surprising traffic statistics for the official Euro 2008 website
Soccer fans from the nations not participating in Euro2008 are the most frequent users of the official Euro 2008 website (www.euro2008.com), which provides full coverage of the european soccer championships. Fans from the United Kingdom top the list, followed by fans from the United States. What is more, fans from Canada are very active, currently sitting in 4th place! Talk about the lack of soccer popularity in Canada. Amazingly, fans from the nations whose teams made it to the advanced stages of the tournament, such as Italy and Spain, account for far less traffic.
The site euro2008.com has received record levels of internet traffic with more than 1 billion page views since launch and 42 million visitors from over 200 countries have logged-in during the competition.
David Farrelly, editor of euro2008.com said the site was proving to be a huge success and stats already show an increase of over 250% compared to euro2004.com four years ago.
"The web is a great way to provide information to the millions of fans around the world, and combining it with the latest technology helps provide in-depth information for the new generation of football fans who are increasingly able to multi-task and browse multiple devices at the same time," he said.
