Surrey Eagles Win Against Nanaimo Clippers - BCHL Hockey by Barbara McPherson

Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, Canada

Surrey Eagles came out the winners Sunday afternoon.  The large Nanaimo crowd was disappointed to see their Clippers lose three/one.  The game was a close one with a combination of sloppy passes at crucial times and superb goal tending by the Surrey gatekeeper.  The first goal, scored by the Eagles was answered by the Clippers.  The go ahead goal and game winner was scored when the Clippers were serving a penalty.  An open net goal in the dying minute of the game put it all away.

Clippers were playing their third game in three days.  They won Friday's contest against the Victoria Grizzlies, but lost on Saturday night to them.  This leaves them chasing first place in the Island Division  of the BC Hockey League(BCHL).

Hockey fans were treated to exhibits by  law enforcement teams.  Sunday was set aside to recognize and thank the men and women who help make the community a safe place to live.  Tour de Rock members were especially popular as they circulated among the crowd at intermission.  Fans also had an opportunity to take photos with Safety Bear or the iconic Mountie in Red Serge.
